Murud Janjira is a magnificent marine fort standing intact on the Island of Arebian Sea. The fort is also known as “Janjeera Jal Durga” or “Ajinkya kila”. Murud beach and the fort are one of the favorite places for tourist on Konkan coast.

The history of Murud Janjira fort tells that, it was belongs to Janajira State. It was built during around 15th century by Malik Ambar. He was minister in the court of Ahmednagar Sultan. The Portuguese and Maratha tried to capture the fort many times, but were unsuccessful. That is why is known as “Ajinkya Kila.

The fort timings are morning 7: 30 to evening 4:30. The huge walls of the fort are standing still strongly between the seas. The area of this oval shaped fort is about 22 acres and you may require approximately one hour for go around. The three canons placed inside the fort are the main attractions here. They are named as Kalal bangdi, Chavri and Landa Kasam.

You can find many famous beaches on this coast line like Murud beach, Alibaug beach, Nagaon beach and Kashid Beach etc. These are some of the unpolluted beaches. Alibaug beach and Nagaon beach offers water sports also. On Nagaon beach you will find many cottages and resorts to stay. Kolaba fort is one more fort, you can reach their by walk from Alibaug beach.

As it is placed in the Konkan region, which will be humid during summer, so October to March is best time to visit here.
